Mamma Mia musical stage writer and Suffolk local, Catherine Johnson joins National Theatre director, Anthony Banks in conversation.

Catherine Johnson is the writer of the stage musical, Mamma Mia! currently celebrating its 20th year in London’s West End. The musical has been seen all over the world and in various translations. Catherine also wrote the screenplay for the movie, starring Meryl Streep. Her career began when she won the inaugural Bristol Old Vic Playwriting Award, which led to further commissions with BOV, The Bush Theatre and Royal National Theatre’s Connections. Her TV work includes Casualty, Love Hurts, Byker Grove and Gold.  Catherine was born in Suffolk, so High-Tide is a homecoming.

Anthony has directed many new plays for such prestigious companies including National Theatre, Soho Theatre and UK tour of The Girl on The Train as well as twentieth century classics.  Anthony was an associate director at the National Theatre 2004-2014 where he commissioned and developed a hundred new plays for NT Connections.
