HighTide Festival 2016

Playwriting

HighTide is an engine room for discovering new playwrights and producing their plays, and we're internationally renowned for doing so. We're passionate about making new theatre, and we continue to commit to the development, production, and advocacy for exceptional new voices in the UK and internationally.

We pride ourselves on discovering new playwrights and giving their play a world-class production. We currently run two annual schemes for emerging writers, our Annual Play Submissions where writers of any age, background and experience can submit a play to HighTide for consideration at the next year's Festival, and our First Commissions scheme, where writers under the age of 30 can submit a proposal to develop a new play with us over 18 months.

Play Development

At HighTide we want to support theatre-makers to say something different, by allowing them the time and the resources to create something that is outside of the norm. We give people the opportunity to do something they haven’t done before. For artists we inspire change in the industry. For audiences we challenge the status quo.

Play Submissions

We accept unproduced full-length plays from literary agents throughout the year in consideration for the annual HighTide Festival.

Don't Have An Agent?

HighTide remain committed to the discovery and nurturing of writers who are not represented by an agent.

We invite you to introduce us to your work by sending us a synopsis of your play, a 10 page extract, as well as letting us know a bit more about you and your work. If the material interests us, we will contact you to request the complete script.

Our First Commissions window is open now - to find out more click to the left.

What Are We Reading Extracts For?

We’re looking for playwrights with vivid, theatrical voices who have something to say. We’re also interested in writers/theatre-makers who challenge the conventional relationship between a play and an audience.

Feedback

Please note that, due to the high volume of inquiries we receive, and limited resources we are unable to respond individually to each work sample that’s submitted, or to offer feedback. You will hear from us within six months of submitting if we’re interested in reading more of your work.
