HighTide Writers Group 2017

HighTide's mission is to stage the best new plays by emerging writers. Our playwrights are new, adventurous and diverse in terms of ethnicity, political philosophy, and socio-economic backgrounds. HighTide commissions are created in Suffolk through the renowned annual HighTide Festival. Our programming influences the mainstream. Our productions are about the here and now.

HighTide are on the lookout for 12 writers, of any age, who are at an early stage of their careers to join our inaugural HighTide Writers Group.

How It Will Work:

The Writers Group will be run by HighTide Associate Director Andy Twyman and is a free opportunity for early stage writers to spend 10 weeks exploring the process of writing a play, discussing each other’s work and looking at some of British theatre’s most exciting plays of recent times, with a view to you writing a full length first draft by the end of the process.

The Writers Group will run one evening a week from 6.30pm-9.30pm on Wednesday evenings for 8 weeks. Each session will be dedicated to looking at a certain aspect of playwriting and will also include occasional guest speakers. The Final 2 weeks will be structured to allow for one on one sessions to offer feedback, and more tailored dramaturgical support.

The current proposed start date for the writers group will be Wednesday 18th October 2017 with the final session taking place on Wednesday 6th December 2017.

Personal Specification:

This group is aimed at first time or early stage writers of any age. We define an early stage writer as someone who has not had any of their plays staged in full production. This could range from never having written a full play before to having written a few but feeling you need to hone your craft. You should be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in writing for theatre and in particular the type of work that HighTide Theatre looks to produce. We are looking for exciting and engaging ideas that show an understanding of the work HighTide create. We encourage writers from all and any background to apply regardless of experience.
